Christ Church's Values
The Vision at Christ Church
How does God want to shape Christ Church Bayston Hill now and in the future?
This is something the church community and leadership have been thinking, talking and praying about a great deal over the last 12 months. Having reflected on the feedback from the whole-church evaluation process we conducted during spring 2011, the PCC have identified the emerging vision priorities for our church community over the coming years. The priorities identified will enable us to work towards the long-term objectives of our vision framework. In fact, the vision framework very much sets the tone for the kind of church God is calling us to be in the years ahead.
Setting the tone for our priorities
Developing existing aspects of church
Exploring new ways of being church
Resourcing mission-shaped church (church life reaching out to others)
Journeying further and deeper with God
Growing an attractive community of all ages
Identified from evaluation material at PCC Vision Day
Direction we are heading in over next 5 years
God is calling us to think “outside the box” and develop ways to “take church to the people”.
To make this possible we will have to identify, encourage and equip a variety of gifts and ministries and encourage “every member” ministry.
So what might that mean for God’s people here in Christ Church?
We must encourage and enable people to develop their role in church.
This changes the nature of leadership and of church (from top-down to bottom-up) and requires us to emphasise that all members of our community are of equal value.
To allow God to equip us…
we must create a greater freedom in worship within a clearly understood framework that can provide a variety of styles, with a strong sense of openness to God’s leading. We must create more space to be open to God and to the ministry of His Holy Spirit.
we must help people to understand and experience the power of prayer, raising the profile of the prayer support that is available within and outside our services and providing places for prayer and quietness that are discrete but easily accessible.
we must support each other by developing and building new relationships, but also nurturing the existing relationships that can so easily be taken for granted.
we must encourage an environment of grace rather than criticism.
To enable us to “take church to the people” we want to bring Church and our communities closer together..
we want to be more effective Christians in our community here in Bayston Hill, but also where we live, where we work, where we study, where we play…
we want to encourage more non-Christians to come into the church building and so we will explore ways of developing the foyer / entrance hall to support our vision more effectively.
What are the next steps in the direction God is leading?
The PCC are now overseeing the work towards our Vision Map which is addressing priorities up until 2017.
What can you do?
Imagine where you fit into this vision...
Pray God will continue to shape and lead us
Pray for the PCC
Ask God to show you what part you will play
Own the vision - ‘our vision’
Ask God to help you lay aside your previous expectations of what church should be
Ask not what your church can do for you but what you can do for your church
Thank you to God - he is clearly moving us forward and has exciting plans for us.
Thank you to everyone who has played a part and added their inspiration and ideas.
Christ Church believes..
We are a Church of England Church with a welcoming and evangelical outlook.
We believe in One God Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe the Bible is God’s inspired word for us today guiding us into God’s will
The Church is the Body of Christ and should share His love
We believe that the good news of Jesus Christ is for all people to hear, know and experience.
The Bible: We believe the Bible to be the fully inspired and word of God and the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
The Trinity: We believe in One God Father, Son and Holy Spirit Sovereign in Creation and Redemption.
Jesus Christ: We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His real and complete humanity, His sinless life, His authoritative teaching, His sacrifice on the Cross for all our sins, His bodily resurrection and ascension to the right hand of the Father interceding for us, and in His second advent return to judge all mankind and receive His Church.
The Holy Spirit: We believe in the Holy Spirit who proceeds from the Father and the Son. He convicts us of our sin, leads us to repentance and guides us into Holy living demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit. Through the baptism in the Holy Spirit we are empowered with His gifts for the ministry of the Church, its worship, evangelism and service.
Salvation: We believe in the necessity faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by which we are pardoned and accepted as righteous in God’s sight - by the Grace of God.
The Church: We believe in the spiritual unity, the priesthood of all believers in Christ and the ‘all Church members ministry’ drawing on the gifts of each member of the Church.
The Commission: We believe that the gospel embraces the needs of every person commissioned to share the good news of Jesus, pray, work for transformation and make diciples.
